AWAY FROM THE CITY
Away from the city,
Will I finally be at peace?
Away from the city, from its sparkling towers,
The crazy moons watch me run
On the gray cliff, and shine
The skeletons of the planets
That are being torn to pieces.
Towards the ocean, further away,
The stars show me the way.
Away from the city,
Will I finally be at peace?
Away from the reinforced concrete, near the bay,
Can we hear the sirens howling?
The worn-out cries of babies?
The agony of birds, the rotting of cats,
The insanity of men, the invasion of rats,
Can we hear all that? ... finally at peace?
Under the oily sea,
The stars hide.
And when the infernal machine
starts up again,
It has nothing left,
But an empty bubble to finally pierce.
Away from the city,
Will I finally be at peace?
Hidden in the abyss,
On the canvas, the fine oil
Drips and weaves
A cocoon where I slip,
Agile as an eel.
Am I really at peace, Away from the city?
