The second piece in the ongoing series "Fractals Under Surrealist Constraints," Hi-fi [High Fidelity], speaks to us of the ties that bind us despite ourselves, of memories that resurface, still as vivid as ever, when looking at an old photograph or listening to an 80s song we thought we'd forgotten.
These are our feelings, our attachments, our roots… An old hit that we keep in our heads, unconsciously, all day long. The same record playing on repeat, an old 45 rpm record that skips and never stops. It's the loyalty of our affections, the relentless force of time that tries to erase our memories but doesn't always succeed.
It is the lock of hair, imprinted with our history and our DNA, that they are trying to tear from us here, without success. Unconscious beings and ties prevent us from leaving and bring us back to a bygone era, always playing the same old tune.
Can the young man in the painting continue to grow and become independent? Or is he already part of the past? Perhaps he is only a remnant, a fragment of memory of this woman who bursts forth from the frame. A reminiscence of her youth, which she desperately tries to hold onto.
Nostalgia, nostalgia!
